Flores – Komodo overland

7 Days / 6 nights

Day 1. Arrival Ende or Maumere airport – Moni

Upon arrival at Ende airport (or Maumere) meet and greet by our local representative. Then transfer directly to Moni. Enroute stop at the traditional village of Saga. Overnight at Kelimutu crater Ecolodge in Moni. Note: If you arrive at Maumere airport, Saga Village can be visited on day2 on the way from Moni to Riung.

Day 2. Moni – Kelimutu – Ende – Riung (B)

It is worth to experience the sunrise at Kelimutu – the three colored crater lakes. You will begin your day early in the morning (start at about 4.00 o’clock). Once you arrived at Kelimutu you will find yourself in a place like nowhere else in the world, incomparable with anything you have seen before. After admiring the nature wonder drive to Ende. On the way, you will pass through ravines and villages. There are chances for photo stops, such as at Nduaria Fruit Market. Arrive in Ende and proceed directly to Wolotopo – the coastal Lio ethnic village, beautifully set with shrines and megalithic monuments.  Lunch in Ende. Afternoon drive to Riung. En route stop at Penggajawa – the blue pebbles beach. Overnight in Riung at Pondok SVD.

Day 3. Riung – Bajawa ( B/L)

There is a nature conservation park in Riung mainly to protect the underwater ecosystem. Take a chance to explore the small isles offshore – known for their beautiful coral gardens with white sandy beaches. There is an island with unspoiled mangrove forests inhabited by thousands of huge fruit eating bats. Lunch during 17 island tour. Afternoon drive to Bajawa, en route visit Soa hot water spring. Overnight in Bajawa. Sanian, Happy2 GH.

Day 4. Bajawa – Ruteng ( B)

Bajawa is located in the heart of Ngadha ethnic civilization, which is known for its megalithic cultures. There are traditional villages with stone monuments, ancestor worship shrines, and Adat Houses. The hamlets are beautifully settled in the volcanic mountainous area. The most beautiful ones are Wogo and Bena. Visit those villages and in the afternoon drive to Ruteng. It is another beautiful driving day; you will pass through unique villages and lush rain forests. En route stop at Ranamese Lake. Overnight at Sindha Hotel.

Day 5. Ruteng – Labuan Bajo ( B)

In the morning a walk through the rice fields north of Ruteng. Continue to visit Liang Bua: The cave where recently the bones of the short Homo Floresiensis (the hobbit) have been excavated by scientists.  In the afternoon visit spiderweb ricefields at Cacar and continue to Labuan Bajo via mountainous route. Overnight at Jayakarta Resort.

Day 6.  Rinca – Komodo – Labuan Bajo ( B/L )

Our purpose today is to see the Komodo dragon. This largest living lizard on earth lives on 3 islands Rinca, Padar & Komodo and some parts of West Flores. Its length can go up to 3 meters with a weight of up to 90 kilo. Early morning wake up call. Breakfast at hotel transfer to the harbor. At 6.00 am depart for Komodo island. This trip over blue tropical waters and past hundreds of small islands will take approximately 4 hours. On our visit to Komodo island, we make a walk (1 hour) with a local ranger in search of the Komodo dragons. During your visit also wild buffalo, deer, pigs and various species of tropical birds like the Cockatoo can be seen. At Pink Beach lunch and time to discover the splendid underwater world of these rich waters (snorkels and fins are provided). Onwards to Rinca. Led by a local ranger 1-hour soft trekking through forest and savanna. Komodo dragons are often spotted on the way. From the highest point on this hike, you have a beautiful panorama of the surrounding island. Return to Labuan Bajo will take around 1,5 hours. Upon arrival at the harbor transfer to Hotel in Labuan Bajo for overnight. Overnight Jayakarta Resort.

Day 7.  Labuan Bajo – airport (B )

En route to the airport visit Batu Cermin – the cave with stalactites and stalagmites.
