Indonesia tour in 21 days : Sumatra, Java and Bali

Day 1
AirportAirport Kuala Namu – Hotel Deli River Kuala Namu – Hotel Deli River

Arrive in Kuala Namu airport with flight … at … (please advise us your flight number and arrival time). We will fetch you from the airport and transfer to hotel Deli River for 1 overnight stay, nicely situated in the countryside outside Medan. Here you can rest after the long journey, walk or swim.


Day 2
Medan – Bukit Lawang (3,5 hours drive)

Depart to Bukit Lawang, the orang utan rehabilitation centre via many rubber and palmoilplantations. It takes around 3.5 hours driving to Bohorok/Bukit Lawang, part of Gunung Leusernature reservation in North Sumatra province. After arrival in Bukit Lawang, check in to hotel. 2 overnight stays in Eco Lodge Bukit Lawang Cottage or Sam Bungalow, Eriono guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. Your accommodation in Bukit Lawang located on the bank of Bohorok river.


Day 3
Bukit Lawang – 6 hours jungle trekking

Today after breakfast you will start for 6 hours jungle trekking. You will be guided by an experienced local guide that will help you marvel at the magic of the magnificent rainforest. Throughout the trek you will be able to see the Orangutans, Siamang (arboreal black-furred gibbon native to the forests of Sumatra), Thomas Leaf Monkeys, long tail Macaques, and different kinds of reptiles and varieties of birds. Walkers must be fit and during the trek use shoes that provide enough support and traction. After the jungle trek you return to Bukit Lawang and back to your hotel. Lunch is included during the jungle trekking.


Day 4
Bukit Lawang – Parapat/ Samosir island via plantations route (7 – 8 hours + 1 hour by ferry)

In the morning depart to Parapat/ Samosir island via the highway. From Tebing Tinggi you will drive along endless palm tree, rubber and cacao plantations and through the historic city of Pematang Siantar. Here you can buy the famous peanuts cookies, Ting Ting and Teng Teng. In the afternoon you will arrive in Parapat on the borders of Lake Toba, where you cross the lake by ferry to the island Samosir. The car goes with us to the island. 3 overnight stays in Tabo Cottages (type: batak villa or junior suite) or Zoe‘s Paradise water front or Caroline hotel.


Day 5
Samosir – tour to Tomok, Ambarita and Simanindo.

On this beautiful island you can visit the typical Toba Batak villages: Tomok with its kings’ tombs, Ambarita with its execution tables and in Simanindo you can see traditional Batak dances (optional). After lunch (optional) continue visit Lumban Suhi-Suhi village famous for all kinds of handcraft and weaving Ulos (traditional Batak textiles). After that drive to Sianjur Mulamula village and Mount Pusuk Buhit from where you have magnificent views over Lake Toba and see Nai Sogop Waterfall. Mount Pusuk Buhit is believed to be the sacred area of Batak Culture. Generally people believe that the Batak King derived directly from mount Pusuk Buhit and then build the first settlement at Sianjur Mula mula(Sianjur at first). In the late afternoon back to the hotel.


Day 6
Samosir island – own program.

Car and driver are available. You might take beautiful walks over the island or swim in the lake. In the evening you can enjoy a performance of the Toba singers in a local café. (optional)


Day 7
Samosir island/Parapat – Medan via Brastagi (1 hour by ferry + 7 hours drive)


In the morning cross the lake back to Parapat. After arrive in Parapat depart for Medan via Brastagi. Impressive route to the mountain village of Brastagi in the Karo highlands via pineapple, clove and ginger plantations. Brastagi has a volcanic soil which is ideal for growing fruits such as passion fruit, mangosteens, Tamarillo (Solanum Betaceum) which is locally called Terong Belanda, oranges and a variety of flowers. In Brastagi you can view two active volcanoes, the Sibayak and the Sinabung. Enroute visit the tribal kings’ house of the Simalungun Batak in Pematang Purba and the Sipisopiso falls. Stops en route to the traditional village of Dokan to see original Karo houses where people still live. In these traditional houses, named Si Waluh Jabu, 8 families occupy one house. Cattle, pigs and water buffaloes live below the house. You can visit a house and see their way of life. If you want go inside to traditional houses kindly give a donation to the families. Around noon arrive in Brastagi where you can visit the fruit market and Taman Alam Lumbini, a replica of Shwedagon pagoda. In the afternoon drive back to Medan. 1 overnight stay in hotel Deli River in Medan.


Day 8
Medan – Kuala Namu airport – Jogjakarta

Today transfer to Kuala Namu airport for your flight to Jogjakarta. Arrive in Adisutjipto airport Jogjakarta, we will fetch you and transfer to hotel The Phoenix (type: deluxe) or Ambarukmo Palace (type: deluxe) for 3 overnight stays in Jogjakarta.


Day 9
Jogjakarta excursion.

In the morning visit Borobudur, the biggest Buddhist temple of Java. Hereafter drive to Jogjakarta. The city of Jogyakarta is situated between two Javanese mystical symbols, the Merapi volcano and the Indian ocean, home of Loro Gunung Kidul, Queen of the South Sea. Jogyakarta is the intellectual and cultural centre of Java. This day you make a cultural city tour starting with a visit to the Sultan’s palace built in 1755. After that proceed to the Tamansari water castle, birdmarket, the silver village Kota Gede and Batik home industry. Hereafter you also visit the Prambanan temple. In the late afternoon back to the hotel.


Day 10
Jogjakarta

On this day you can go to a village outside Jogjakarta where you make a nice bike ride. You make the bike ride with Mr. Towil. You drive past rice fields and pretty Javanese villages with friendly people. You can see how they grow rice and make tempe (soyabean product) and krupuk. In the afternoon you will return to your hotel in Jogjakarta.


Day 11
Jogjakarta – Mojokerto by train – Bromo/Sukapura

In the morning transfer to the railway station in Jogjakarta to catch the train to Mojokerto with Sancaka Pagi departure 6.45 and arrive at 11.00. In Mojokerto we will fetch you from the train station and drive to Bromo/Sukapura. 1 overnight stay in Lava View (type: Deluxe).


Day 12
Bromo volcano – Surabaya airport – Ubud/Bali.

Early in the morning you leave for the famous Bromo volcano. On top of the Bromo you will have breathtaking views of the sunrise above the Semeru and Batok volcano. A jacket is suggested since the temperature on top of the volcano can drop till 5 degrees celcius. After having seen the impressive sunrise and view from mount Bromo, we return to hotel for breakfast. Then transfer to the airport in Surabaya to catch your flight to Bali. After arrive in Bali we will fetch you at the airport and transfer you to Ubud. Ubud is the cultural centre of Bali with many house industries like woodcarving, gold- and silversmiths and paintings. There are many galleries and attractions to see in Ubud. 3 overnight stays in Saren Indah (type: deluxe view/upstairs) or Nick’s Hidden (type: deluxe cottage) in Ubud.


Day 13
Ubud – own program. No transport available.


Day 14
Ubud – own program. No transport available.


Day 15
Ubud – Pemuteran.

Today transfer to Pemuteran from Ubud. Pemuteran is ideal for watersport and beach holidays. 3 overnight stays in Hotel Adi Assri(type: deluxe premium) or Taman Sari Bali Cottage (type: studio) in Pemuteran.

Pemuteran – own program. No transport available.

Day 18
Pemuteran – Sanur.

Today transfer to Sanur from Pemuteran. Sanur is also a very nice destination for those who love beach holidays, here you can do many water activities. Sanur also offers many traditional activities like Balinese dances and cultural performances. 3 overnight stay in Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur (type: pool view) or The Oasis Lagoon (type: deluxe) in Sanur.

Day 21
Sanur – airport. Today we will transfer you to the airport to catch your flight to next destination. End of your Sumatra, Java and Bali tour.
