Day 1: Medan – arrival at the airport.

City Garden Oasis

You will be picked up by us from the airport and spend the night at the Deli River Hotel in Medan.

 Day 2: Medan.

Medan – In the morning there will be a city tour on colonial architecture along the still existing Dutch buildings. During the day, we leave for Bohorok, the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Bohorok (Bukit Lawang) is located at the beautiful Bohorok river. It is truly an impressive natural reserve with impenetrable jungle covering a wild river. In this impressive nature reserve, you can see the orangutans their natural environment. In order to see Sumatran wildlife such as the Orang Utans, Siamang (black-furred gibbon), Thomas Leaf Monkeys, long tail Macaque and varieties of Sumatran birds, you will make an easy jungletrek of 3 hours with an experienced local guide through the impressive tropical primary rainforest. Trekkers must be fit and have suitable large profile shoes. Overnight stay in a hotel on the banks of the beautiful Bohorok river.

Day 3. Bohorok / Bukit Lawang – free program.

Day 4. Bohorok / Bukit Lawang – Berastagi.


Brastagi, the mountain village in the Karo highlands, has been a popular tourist destination since the 1920s because of its pleasant cool climate and beautiful surroundings. In Brastagi you can go to the fruit market to buy the delicious mangistan, rambutan, marquisa and other tropical fruits. You can also go to the Karo Batak village where the people still live in traditional Karo houses. Overnight stay in Berastagi.

Day 5. Berastagi – Lake Toba – Samosir.

Beautiful route through the Karo Highland along pineapple, clove and ginger plantations. Along the way there is a stop at the Royal House of the Batak Simalungun tribe in Pematang Purba and the Sipisopiso waterfall. In the afternoon, you arrive in Prapat on Lake Toba from where you cross over to the island of Samosir, in the middle of Lake Toba. Overnight on Samosir.

Day 6. Samosir – A tour on this beautiful island.

On this day you can visit the characteristic Toba Batak villages: Tomok, with the royal tombs; Ambarita with her execution tables; and Simanindo for traditional Toba dancing. The night will be spend on the island of Samosir.

 

Day 7. Samosir – Sibolga.

 

You drive along the south side of Lake Toba with beautiful rice fields and high Batak King Tombs. Along the way, you will pass the hot sulfur springs at Sipoholon. At Tarutung, centre of the Protestant Batak Church, turn off towards Sibolga, the old harbor town on the Indian Ocean. Through a sensational road with a thousand bends straight through the mountain range Bukit Barisan, you arrive in the afternoon in Sibolga, the town where time seems to stand still. You stay two nights in Sibolga in a hotel on the beach.

 

Day 8. Sibolga – own program.

 

You can compose your own program in consultation with the driver in this non-tourist town on the Indian Ocean.

 

 Day 9. Sibolga – Bukittinggi.

 

The route to Bukittinggi in the Minangkabau highland takes you through the mountain range Bukit Barisan of Sumatra again this day. It is an impressive trip where you enter the highland of the Minangkabau through a wall of tropical rainforest. Along the way, you will pass the equator in the town of Bonjol and the Panti nature reserve. Before reaching Bukittinggi, you will pass Palupu where you can see the Rafflesia, largest flower in the world. This flower is not always in bloom, depending on the season, and you have to make a jungle trek to see this wonder of nature. Late in the afternoon you arrive in the pleasant town of Bukittinggi for overnight.

 

Day 10. Bukittinggi – short city tour, excursion to Pagaruyung, Batusangkar, the Harau nature reserve and Lake Singkarak.

 

In the morning there is a short city tour through Bukittinggi to Fort De Kock, the museum and the market. The former Fort de Kock is situated in a strategic position where you have a beautiful view over the famous ravine ‘Karbouwengat’ (Ngarai Sianok) After that you leave for Paguryung. In the palace in Pagaruyung you can see the different aspects of the matriarchal pattern of the Minangkabau. The Harau nature reserve is famous for its large rock formations and beautiful butterflies. At Batusangkar are historical rock inscriptions in Sanskrit. On the way, back to Bukittinggi you will pass the lake of Singkarak. The night will be spent in Bukittinggi.

 Day 11. Bukittinggi – Maninja lake – Bukittinggi.

 

This day you make an excursion to the Maninjaumeer. The sporty hiker can take a walk of about an hour through the Karbouwengat mentioned above to the silver village Kota Gadang where you will be met by the car. From Kota Gadang you will leave for the mysterious Maninja Lake, descending along the road with forty-four curves. The night will be spent in Bukittinggi.

 

Day 12. Bukittinggi – Padang through the beautiful Anai valley and Anai waterfall.
Padang is the largest port city in West Sumatra and an important economic centre. After arrival in Padang you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 13. Padang – Bogor.
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Jakarta. Arrival at airport Soekarno Hatta where you will be picked up from the airport again. After this you will leave for Bogor. The night will be spent in Bogor.

 

Day 14. Bogor – Bandung.

 

In the morning, you will visit the famous botanical garden next to the palace. The Istana Bogor (Palace of Bogor) was the official residence of the Governor-General of the former Dutch East Indies from 1870 to 1942. In the botanical garden of Bogor you will find plants from all over the world. After the visit to the Botanical Garden you will leave for Bandung via the tea plantations and the Puncak pass. You can visit the tea factory. Overnight in Bandung.

 

Day 15. Bandung – excursion to the impressive Tangkuban Prahu crater, then to Ciater where you can enjoy the hot springs.

 

In the afternoon, you drive to Padasuka for a performance of Pak Ujo’s bamboo orchestra. This is a fun concert where children and adults make music and perform Sundanese dances. The night will be spent in Bandung.

 

Day 16. Bandung – Baturaden.

This day you will leave for Baturaden, via the Cipanas waterfall and the traditional Sundanese village of Naga. In the afternoon, you arrive in the mountain village of Baturaden at the foot of the volcano Slamat. Overnight in Baturaden.

 

Day 17. Baturaden – Yogyakarta.

 

This day you drive from Baturaden to Jogyakarta via the famous Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple of Java. Overnight in Jogjakarta, the cultural center of Java.

 

 Day 18. Jogjakarta city tour.

 

Jogyakarta is located between the volcano Merapi in the north and the Indian Ocean, domain of the Queen of the South Sea, Loro Gunung Kidul. Jogyakarta is the intellectual and cultural center of Java. This day you will visit the sultan’s palace from 1755, the center of Javanese culture. Then go to small batik industry, the silver village Kota Gede, the bird market and the Tamansari water castle. The night will be spent in Jogjakarta.

 

Day 19. Jogjakarta – Free program.
Car with driver will be available. The night will be spent in Jogjakarta.

 

Day 20. Jogjakarta – Tretes via Solo.

In the morning, you will visit the Prambanan, the most beautiful Hindu temple in Java.Hereafter you drive to Solo where you will arrive around noon. The sultanate Solo is older than that of Jogyakarta and residence of the empire Mataram. In Solo you will visit the sultans palace and the flea market. In the afternoon arrival in the mountain village Tretes for an overnight stay.

 

Day 21. Tretes – Bromo.
In the morning there will be a free program to look around in Tretes. You can, for example, visit the local market. Then departure to Sukapura for an overnight stay.

 

Day 22. Sukapura – Bromo excursion – Surabaya.

 

Very early in the morning you walk or ride on horses to the top of the Bromo for a fascinating sunrise (if not cloudy) on top of the moon landscape of the volcano. The temperature on top of the mountain can drop to 5 degrees Celsius, so it is best to dress warmly. After this special experience departure to Surabaya, the second city of Indonesia. The night will be spent in Surabaya.

 

Day 23. Surabaya – transfer to the airport of Surabaya for your flight to Denpasar, Bali.

 

You will be picked up from the airport. From Denpasar you will be taken to the famous artists’ village of Ubud. From Ubud you can easily organize excursions in the area, such as to the Kintamani volcano and the gold and silver village of Celuk. The night will be spent in Ubud.

 

Day 24. Ubud – Free program.
No transportation. The night will be spent in Ubud.

 

  Day 25. Ubud – Sanur.

 

This day you will be transferred from Ubud to the hotel in Sanur for a stay of 3 nights to conclude your stay in Bali. Sanur is ideal for water sports enthusiasts. From your hotel, you can easily compose your own excursions.

 

Day 26. Sanur – Own program.
No transportation. Overnight stay in Sanur.

 

Day 27. Sanur – Own program.
No transportation. Overnight stay in Sanur.

 

Day 28. Sanur – Denpasar.
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. The end of an extraordinary Sumatra, Java and Bali trip.
